Flat Roof

In Brooklyn and Queens, flat roofs account for the majority of roofing styles.Flat roofs deteriorate more quickly than shingled roofs because they lack a pitch, allowing water to pool.Because of the wear and tear expected from water, ice, and snow lying on the roof surface for an extended period of time, many manufacturer warranties only last 5-10 years on flat roofs. From SBS membrane self-adhered cap and base sheet installations to Karnak brand roofing and flashing cement, we have over 20 years of flat roofing experience to provide the most impervious surface possible on a customer's property.

When to Replace a Flat Roof Roof vs Repair

If your flat roof is more than 15 years old, you should consider replacing it. Especially if the costs of repair are significant. TPO membranes are now used on the majority of flat roofs. A TPO roof can last anywhere from 15 to 25 years, depending on the conditions. It's not a good idea to spend a lot of money on a roof, just like it's not a good idea to spend a lot of money on an old automobile. Repairing a flat roof that has seen better days can be costly. Every year, the expense of upkeep rises.

Why will flat roofs leak?

It is sometimes possible to remedy the problem by increasing drainage systems to get water off the roof faster. Standing water on a roof is a serious issue. The longer water remains on your roof, the more likely it will find a way into your home.

Flat Roof Repair

Is your flat roof leaking in your home or business? If this is the case, don't be alarmed. It's perfectly typical for your flat roof to need repairs at some point during its lifespan. Repairing a PVC, EPDM, or TPO flat roof is usually extremely straightforward and does not cost an arm and a leg. Finding the source of the leak is the most difficult part of fixing a flat roof. Water can travel a long way through flat roof membranes before dripping onto the building's interior floor.

How Do Flat Roofs Drain

It is common knowledge that flat roofs are more resistant to severe weather than other roofing designs. When it rains or snows, though, where does it all go once it has accumulated? When compared to a shingled roof, flat roofs are unable to leverage their slope or the power of gravity to efficiently remove water. To complete the task, they will require a specially built drainage system. Let's look at two of the most prevalent flat roof drainage systems:

Interior Flat Roof Drainage - An interior flat roof drainage system is often seen on larger commercial flat roofing systems, but it can also be employed in your home. Water will flow through a flat roof's small slope in the same way as sump pumps and drain tiles are built. The water will run down the drain and into an internal system of pipes beneath the roof. The water is then taken out and pumped away from your home or commercial building's foundation.

Scuppers - This flat roofing drainage style is basically huge square holes situated along the building's roofline in the curbs or walls. Scuppers allow water to flow around the building's edges. Downspouts are commonly installed just below the aperture to gather and redirect water away from the building's foundation.
